The City of Cedar Rapids Solid Waste & Recycling Division is partnering with The Can Shed for a 10-week pilot program to test a safer, more efficient way to collect glass.
Your neighborhood has been selected based on higher glass set-out rates. Use the attached bag to participate in the pilot program.
What’s Changing:
- No regular curbside glass collection during the pilot
- Glass will be collected separately by The Can Shed using the attached bags
How to Participate:
- Request bags by calling (319) 286-5897 or emailing Solid-Waste-Recycling@cedar-rapids.org
- Place All Deposit bottles & cans AND all glass containers in the bag.
- Set bag 3 feet from your recycling cart
- Let the team pick it up! Collection occurs on your regular recycling day
Program Goals
1. Improve route efficiency
2. Reduce driver Injuries
3. Increase recycling of deposit containers
If successful, the program may expand citywide, with a portion of deposit proceeds supporting local non-profits.
