Can Shed to Launch BottleDrop Iowa Program on Earth Day
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Can Shed will launch its BottleDrop Iowa program on Earth Day, offering a new, improved and innovative method to make redeeming containers easier and more efficient as part of Iowa’s “bottle bill” recycling law.
Through the program, participants simply download the BottleDrop app on their smartphones, buy bags from any Can Shed location, fill the bags with eligible aluminum and plastic containers and drop the bags at designated drop-door sites located throughout the Corridor. The drop-door sites are open from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. seven days a week, allowing people the flexibility to stop at a time that works for them — eliminating long lines and increasing accessibility.
This program comes at a crucial time, following a statewide decrease in the number of retailers and convenience stores offering redemption services. There are currently 29 counties in the state of Iowa without a redemption center.
BottleDrop Iowa provides the fastest and most streamlined way for Iowans to collect the 5-cent-per-container deposit without the hassle of individually inserting containers or waiting inside redemption centers. After scanning the QR code on their bag(s) and inserting the bag(s) at a drop-door site, people can expect funds in their account within 7-10 business days.
As an app-based option, BottleDrop Iowa provides an easy and efficient way for Iowans to redeem their aluminum and plastic containers, leveraging technology, ease-of-use and convenience. This is an effort to spur more participation in container redemption, resulting in a cleaner Iowa.
BottleDrop Iowa is an example of closed-loop recycling, keeping containers out of Iowa’s ditches, waterways and landfills, mitigating contamination and providing the best approach for reusing containers to reduce waste, save energy and conserve resources.
“BottleDrop Iowa changes the game for container redemption,” said Can Shed Founder and CEO Troy Willard. “It offers Iowans a fast, easy and convenient way to redeem their containers and help our planet. That’s a win-win for everyone. We couldn’t be more excited to offer this to our communities.”
This program and effort underscore Can Shed’s continued commitment to Iowans and the planet — on Earth Day and every day.
